Frequently Asked Questions
Why am I receiving a new card?
In an effort to enhance security, Discovery FCU is issuing new Debit Cards with EMV Chip technology to all members with existing non-chip cards.
Will my card number and PIN change?
Yes. For added security, every card, including cards held by joint owners, will have a NEW unique card number and PIN. Please note that you will likely receive your new card in the mail first, and then one or two days later receive your new PIN. Your new card and new PIN are mailed separately for security purposes. Once you receive and activate your new card, you will need to update any automatic transactions that use your old card number to your new card number information.
What should I do when I receive my new card?
Once you receive both your new Discovery FCU debit card with EMV chip technology and new PIN, activate your card as soon as possible. Once your new card is activated, please destroy your old non-chip card. You will need to update any automatic transactions using your old card number information to your new card number information.

An example of what your new debit card with EMV chip technology is below:
How does chip technology protect my information?
Every time you use your card at a chip-activated terminal, the embedded chip generates a one-time use code. This code is virtually impossible to counterfeit and helps reduce in-store fraud.
How do I pay at a chip-activated terminal?
It’s easy to make purchases with your debit card. You will be prompted to insert the chip end of your debit card into the terminal with the chip facing up. Leave your card in the terminal and follow the prompts on screen.
Why do I need to leave my card in the terminal?
While your card is in the chip-activated terminal, the embedded chip creates a one-time use code. This code is virtually impossible to counterfeit and helps reduce in-store fraud. If you remove your card too soon, your transaction will be canceled.
Does my chip card work at the ATM?
Yes. You can still use your card to get cash, check your balances and more. Be sure to insert the chip end of your debit card into the ATM with the chip facing up.
